Intelligence activity can be considered as the process by which certain types of information are requested, collected, analyzed, and disseminated, and the way in which certain types of secret actions are conceived and carried out. Secret services are government agencies that deal with the collection and analysis of sensitive information for the purpose of ensuring national security and defense. Methods of obtaining information may include espionage, interception of communications, cryptanalysis, cooperation with other institutions, and evaluation of public sources. Military intelligence uses intelligence collection and analysis approaches to provide guidance and direction to aid commanders in their decisions. The history of intelligence provides a comprehensive perspective for understanding intelligence, geopolitics, and security at the national and international levels.

Geopolitics involves the study of politics and international relations. In international relations, geopolitics is a method of study to understand, explain, and predict international political behavior through geographical variables. The subjects of geopolitics include the relationships between the interests of international political actors concentrated in a geographical area, space, or feature, relationships that create a geopolitical system.

Security is a concept that assesses the degree of resistance or protection against what is considered to be evil. In most security systems, the weakest link in the security chain is the most important for security. The situation is asymmetrical, because the “defender” must cover all possible points of attack, while the “attacker” only needs to identify a single weak point to focus on.

Information science is an interdisciplinary science that primarily concerns the analysis, collection, classification, manipulation, storage, retrieval, and dissemination of information. Information science is now a broad, interdisciplinary field that incorporates not only aspects of computer science, but often also fields as diverse as archival science, cognitive science, business, communications, law, library science, management, mathematics, philosophy, public policy, and the social sciences.
