Romanian military intelligence and counterintelligence services in the war of national reunification and international recognition of the great union (1919-1920)

Abstract

The conduct of the World War I military operations, including here and those of the Romanian troops, was influenced by the diplomatic actions and games of the Great European Powers, as well as by the informational superiority of the opponents of our country.

This is how the Army’s Intelligence Service was reorganized, its missions, contributing to the identification of foreign espionage and propaganda institutions, the determination of their leadership and objectives, and the degree of danger that could affect Romania’s security.

The evolutions of the war led to the reconfiguration of the objectives in the field of Romanian military information, aiming to accomplish in several directions and in this respect the methods, means and procedures of information gathering were improved, modern technical means of collecting data and information, following the support and close cooperation with the French Military Mission.

The war experience resulting from the campaigns of the First World War was complemented by the remarkable support that tens of thousands of civilians, men, women and children from all over the country brought to life, animated by a developed state instinct, of high national consciousness and a strong patriotic sentiment.

At the end of the assessments that analysts have made on the evolution of the Romanian Military Intelligence Service during the war for the reunification of the homeland, it is stated that it took advantage of the experience of the war, the intelligence service being organized and functioning according to the great experience of war. Its attributions have become quite clear and well defined and activity has been intense throughout the war. Military intelligence service missions have been accomplished with the presence directly of senior state officers who have worked with much intelligence and dedication in this area during the campaign.

Rezumat

Desfășurarea operaţiunilor militare din Primul Război Mondial, incluzându-se aici și cele ale trupelor române, a fost influenţată atât de acțiunile și jocurile de interese, în plan diplomatic, ale marilor puteri europene, cât și de superioritatea informaţională a adversarilor ţării noastre.

Așa se face că serviciul de informații din cadrul armatei a fost  reorganizat, misiunile acestuia, contribuind la identificarea instituțiilor de spionaj și propaganda străine, a determinării felului conducerii şi obiectivelor acestora, precum și gradul de pericol care putea afecta securitatea României.

Evoluțiile războiului au condus la reconfigurarea obiectivelor în domeniul informațiilor militare românești, urmărindu-se îndeplinirea pe mai multe direcții și în raport de acestea s-au îmbunătăţit  metodele, mijloacele și procedeele de culegere de informații, s-au introdus mijloace tehnice moderne de culegere de date și informații, urmare sprijinului acordat de Misiunea Militară Franceză și cooperării strânse cu aceasta.

Experiența de război rezultată din desfășurarea campaniilor Primului Război Mondial, a fost completată și cu sprijinul remarcabil pe care l-au adus zecile de mii de români civili, bărbați, femei și copii, de pe tot cuprinsul țării, animați de un dezvoltat instinct statal, de o înaltă conștiință națională și de un puternic sentiment patriotic.

La finalul aprecierilor pe care analiștii vremii le-au făcut asupra evoluției Serviciului de informații militar român în timpul războiului pentru reîntregirea patriei, se precizează că s-a profitat de experiența războiului, serviciul de informații fiind organizat și funcționând conform marii experiențe de război căpătate. Atribuţiunile sale au devenit destul de clare și bine definite și activitatea a fost intensă pe toată durata războiului. Misiunile serviciului militar de informații au fost îndeplinit ceu prisosință prin prezența nemijlocită ofițerilor de stat major ce au lucrat cu multă inteligență și dăruire, în acest domeniu pe timpul campaniei.
